Description: The Hungarian Vizsla is a medium sized hunting dog of distinguished appearance, robust but lithe, intelligent, obedient, sensitive, demonstratively affectionate, easily trained with a strong desire to please. A multi-purpose dog bred for work on small birds and waterfowl retrieving. The Vizsla combines the finest in beauty, character and hunting ability.

Original Function:Hunting, pointing and retrieving.

Average Life Span: 14 years.

Age of Maturity: 3 years.

Size: Height at withers.

Dogs: 57 – 64 cms (22.5 – 25 inches).

Bitches: 53 – 60 cms (21 – 23.5 inches).

Weight: 20 – 30 kgs (48.5 – 66 lbs).

Is the Breed a Natural Guard Dog?: Will bark, and is territory conscious.

Attitude to Strangers: Suspicious.

Coat Type: Smooth.

Colour: Russet Gold.

Does Coat Mat?: No.

Does Coat Tangle?: No.

Does Coat Need Professional Grooming?: No.

Special Trimming or Shaping for Show Ring?: No.

Maintenance of Coat: Brushing, feels slightly greasy to the touch.

Exercise: Needs plenty. In town two good walks daily. Should have free running period but only after 12 months.

Ease of Training: Easy.

Good Family Dog: Excellent.

With Other People’s Children: Very good when known.

With Other Dogs Of Same Breed: Good.

Other Breeds: Good.

With Cats: No problems.

Can they live in peace with other pets?: Yes.

Adapt To a Flat: Adaptable subject to exercise set out above.

Good Kennel Dogs: Yes, but prefers human company, and is not suited to being isolated for long periods of time away from family life.

Hereditary Anomalies: Hip dysplasia, entropion, but neither seriously.
